A new Meyers Road was constructed through the tract to provide improved traffic service. This determination was based upon the fact that the existing street was substandard in width and alignment, and bringing it up to current standards would be prohibitively expensive. The existing alignment could not be vacated on the final map, since it had to stay in service until the new street was completed and accepted. At that time, it was to be closed to traffic and vacated. Barriers have been installed to close the old street, but vacation proceedings have not been accomplished. The Public Services Department estimates that it would cost at least $5,000 to bring the old alignment up to a condition where it could be opened to traffic. This work would consist of a I-inch overlay, removing barriers, and improving the inter- sections of the old and new streets so as to assign right-of-way. Also, some drainage improvements would be needed at the easterly end to alleviate flooding. These improvements would not bring the old street into compliance with current design standards, which could expose the City to extraordinary liability. In view of these considerations, we recommend that this petition be referred to the Traffic Safety Committee. The Com- mittee could invite the petitioners to a meeting to discuss this issue in detail. URGENCY CLAUSE: This issue has been under consideration for some time. A decision needs to be made at the earliest possible date so the matter can be resolved. 12/16/87 75-0264 I' i, .J. -- ~lty .t S.. 'arIIT.1a. 300 H." 1). St.' . .. s" terft.f.t..;..:II. - - .........
