AUTHORIZATION TO EXTEND THE LANDSCAPE STAFF REPORT
MAINTENANCE SERVICES OF J & R LANDSCAPE
MAINTENANCE COMPANY, INC. TO JUNE 30,
1988.
The original contract for landscape maintenance of 14 public areas throughout the City
was a pilot program to determine the feasibility of continuing with contracted maintenance
of these areas. The intent was that if the program proved successful, then the Department
and Purchasing Agent would negotiate multi-year contracts in the future. This concept
of contracted maintenance was approved by the Mayor and Common Council on December 8, 1986
when Resolution 86-497 was adopted to award the landscape maintenance contract to J & R
Landscape Maintenance Company, Inc.
J & R Landscape has maintained the 14 locations for the past year. The contract maintenance
program has proven successful, and now the Department desires to extend the contract
with J & R Landscape Company through June 30, 1988. The reason for this extension is to
provide time to prepare the bid package and receive bids on a multi-year contract for
landscape maintenance services. In addition to providing bid processing time, the
extension will also place the contract period on the City fiscal year schedule and
coincide with budget preparation and management.
J & R Landscape has agreed to continue through June 30, 1988 at the same rate as the current
contract. The total amount needed for the extension is $19,500 and is budgeted in the
Parks Division budget for 1987-88.
Authorization to extend the current contract through June 30, 1988 will assure continued
landscape maintenance and provide the time necessary to process new contracts beginning
in FY 1988-89.
JUSTIFICATION
The agreement and price for continuing the service of J & R Landscape Maintenance Company,
Inc. was not received until November 25, 1987. The contract ends on December 14th; therefore,
it is imperative that this item authorizing extension be placed on the December 7th agenda:

Dear Mr. Parker:
As you know, our contract for landscape maintenance
of 14 locations will expire on December 14, 1987. We would
like to express our interest in renewing the contractl and
would be willing to continue maintaining the various areas
for the same price, ($2,999.86 per month) until June. 30, 1988.
If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this
further, please let us know. We would appreciate receiving
a written notice of the City's decision on this matter at your
earliest convenience.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AWARDING A BID TO J & R
LANDSCAPE FOR THE FURNISHING AND DELIVERY OF LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE TO
BE UTILIZED BY THE PARKS. RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
IN ACCORDANCE WITH BID SPECIFICATION F-87-10.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BER-
NARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. J & R Landscape is the lowest and best bidder for the
furnishing and delivery of landscape maintenance in accordance with Bid
Specification F-87-IO for the total amount of $35.998.32; pursuant to this
determination. the Purchasing Agent is hereby authorized and directed to
issue a purchase order for said landscape maintenance to said lowest and
best bidder; such award shall only be effective upon the issuance of a
purchase order by the Purchasing Agent; and all other bids therefor are
hereby rejected.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the
