MINUTES The May meeting of the Board of Building Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Warren Miller at 9:10 a.m., Friday, May I, 1987, in the Council Chambers; City Hall, 300 North 0 Street, San Bernardino, California. , Roll Call: Present: Commissioner Miller, Gomez, Pollock, Heil, Hunt, She~he, Marshall Absent: Commissioner Sellas, Ponder John E. Tucker, Director of the Department of Building and Safety, served as Clerk, Bui lding Inspector James Clark represented the Building . Department. Steve Fogg represented the Fire Department. Dany Nolfo represented Public Services and Loren McQueen, Deputy City Attorney, served as legal advisor. The Clerk duly swore persons who were pr~sent to testify regarding reports. The minutes of the hearing of April 3. 1987. were approved as submitted in typewritten form. To accommodate persons who were present. to testify, the cases were not presented in the order they appeared on the agenda~ The Board confirmed by unanimous vote that the costs incurred for weed abatement are to be charged against the properties presented by Mr. Nolfo, Abatement Coordi- nator for the We811 Abatement Section otlHhe Public Services Department. The Clerk 'presented Item No. 6-0, ReQort/Proiect No. 2538. vacant and occupied dwellings located at 819 E. Santa Fe Street and owned by Ruffen B. Kirkland. Mr. Clark reported on the-ae~iciencies and admitted the report as Exhibit A and the photographs of the property as Exhibit 'B. Mr. Clark said that this property is in the Airport District zone and is zoned for commercial use. It was originally zoned R-l, but there are two units on the lot. Mr. Kirkland appeared and stated that he bought the property in 1983 for rental use and was unaware of the zoning. He is attempting to repair the buildings. Ms. KcQueen said that a variance would be required for major alterations. but repair work would be allowed. Conmissioner Sheehe made a motion. seconded by Commissioner GoIIez, to allow the owner 60 days to bring the buildings up to code. Only one of the units can be used for residential purposes. Permits are to be obtained, fees and penalties are to be paid and the work is to be inspected. If this' is not done, the case is to return to the Board.
