Recommended motion:
That the bids received on 9-28-87, for installation
of two 3-post hoists in the Central Garage, in accord-
ance with Plan No. 7315, be rejected; the Director of
Public Works/City Engineer authorized to revise the
contract documents to include the control unit and
one hoist in the Basic Bid, and the second hoist as an
Additive Alternate, and to readvertise for bids.

STAFF REPORT
Bids for this project were opened at 2:00 p.m. on Monday,
9-28-87.
A total of two bids were received, in the amounts of
$96,513.76 and $105,936.26. The low bid of $96,513.76 is 60.9%
over the Engineer's Estimate of $60,000. A third bid was turned
in after the specified time and was not opened.
It is recommended that all bids be rejected, and that
authorization be granted to re-advertise. Also, that the bid
documents be set up to include the pump, controls, electrical
service and one hoist in the Basic Bid, with the second hoist
as an Additive Alternate. This approach would allow one hoist
to be installed at this time, and perhaps the second also if
favorable bids are received. If the second hoist cannot be in-
stalled under this contract, funds will be proposed in the 1988/
89 Central Garage Budget.
