TO: JESS FLORES -- Councilman, Third Ward SUBJECT: ROGER G. HARDGRAVE, Director of Public Works! City Engineer Installation of Monument Sign -- Mt. Vernon Avenue, North of Grand Avenue FROM: DATE: November 6, 1989 COPIES: Mayor W. R. "Bob" Holcombl Marshall Julianl Anwar WagdYl File No. 6.033l Reading File --------------------------------------------------------------- Attached, per your request, is a copy of a tentative plan showing installation of a monument entrance sign and curbed island. This plan envisions a curbed median about 175 feet in length, starting to the north of the northerly driveway to the business on the northeast corner. Southbound vehicles will still be able to turn left into this driveway. The proposed island is 8 feet in width, which will leave a little over 2 feet clearance from the sign to the face of the curb. Listed below is a preliminary estimate of cost for installation of the island and sign. Costs for installation of an irrigation system and landscaping are also included. 1- Construct curb - 175 X 2 X 101Ft = $ 3,500 2. Construct Sign Foundation 3,500 3. Installation Irrigation & Landscaping - 7 X 175 X $3.50/Sq. Ft. 4,285 TOTAL $ 11,285 The MAC Committee has $3,500 that could be used to finance the cost for constructing the foundation for the sign (in accordance with their standard design). These funds could be used by the MAC Committee to construct the foundation, or it could be given to the City. Any balance could be used to help finance the other construction costs. Vernon November 6, 1989 Page - 2 - - The MAC COllUlli ttee has plans to set two other signs in about 2 months. They would be willing to set this sign at no cost, if the foundation is ready. The west half of Mt. Vernon Avenue is within the City of Colton. A permit would be needed to authorize construction of the west half of the island. Please advise ~ tentative plan. ROGER G.
