The City of San Bernardino is not required to adopt the new minimum wage as public agencies are not legally bound by the state minimum wage laws. Mayor wilcox has requested that the City implement a $4.25 minimum wage effective July 1, 1988. Staff concurs that it is desirable to do so to remain competitive with private employers who must pay that minimum wage. The Council Personnel Committee agreed at its June 9 meeting to recommend that the city implement a $4.25/hour minimum wage effective July 4, 1988, the start of first payperiod of July. The money for this increase have been included in the proposed 1988-89 city budget. In addition, Parks, Recreation and Community services Dir- ector Annie Ramos has recommended that the job titles "Youth Service Aide I and II" be deleted from the part-time salary resolution. ESTABLISHING A BASIC COMPENSATION PLAN . . . . "BY GRANTING A CHANGE IN THE HOURLY RATE TO CERTAIN PART-TIME PO- SITIONS TO COMPLY WITH THE STATE MINIMUM WAGE LAW OF $4.25/HOUR EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1988; AND DELETING THE PART-TIME POSITIONS OF YOUTH SERVICES AIDE I AND YOUTH SERVICES AIDE II. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1.
