STAFF REPORT
The International Conference of Shopping Centers will hold a convention and trade
show in May of 1987. The cut-off date for applications was August I, 1986, but
it is still possible to reserve display space if the application is sent now.
The cost will be $2.75-~3.00 per square foot, with a minimum size of 200 square
feet. Therefore, the initial committment is nearly $6,000.00. To effectively
utilize the space, a substantial but unknown amount of money will be required to
develop displays, models and materials.
Sam Henley has confirmed that !DC Executive Committee will be discussing sharing
the cost for the exhibit space this week. The exact levels of participation will
be worked out as the display materials and size requirements are determined.
This space can be used to promote San Bernardino generally; as well as specific
projects such as Central City South, where we wish to attract a master developer.
Although, our marketing plans are incomplete at the present time, this trade show
is of singular importance because major developers from across the country are
available in person to negotiate deals.
Staff believes there is suff:\.cient time between now and May to develop an
effective display, which would concentrate on the Central City South, the
Enterprise Zone, and perhapa commercial opportunities in the newly adopted Uptown
Project area.
The Redevelopment Committee has reviewed this matter and recommended that an
application be made and that staff contact !DC to request assistance in funding.
