STAFF REPORT
Every year the County of San Bernardino Housing Authority is
allocated Section 8 Certificates for use throughout the
County (including City of San Bernardino) under the Section 8
Existing Housing Voucher Program. However, prior to the
Housing Authority submitting its application to HUD, it must
gain the approval of cooperating cities in anticipation of
the allocation of Certificates within incorporated areas of
the County.
By regulation the Housing Authority must serve Section 8
applicants on a County-wide first-come-first-serve basis.
Staff has been advised by Housing Authority staff that no
Certificates were allocated to San Bernardino during the last
year. However, approval of the allocation of Existing
Section 8 Certificates to the City, enables the City to
remain in compliance with its CDBG Housing Assistance Plan
previously approved by the Mayor and Common Council and HUD.
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Common Council authorize
the Mayor of the City of San Bernardino to send a letter to
the Executive Director of the San Bernardino County Housing
Authority approving the allocation of additional existing
Section 8 Certificates to the City of San Bernardino.
