Technique: A list of projects was developed by the Chamber's Transportation Committee and mailed to all 1600 members of the Chamber of Commerce. Projects were listed without consideration of project expenses. Respondents were asked to indicate the relative importance of each project. There were 286 useable responses to the survey. This high response rate was stimulated by the offer of four prizes of $80 each, in advertising, in the Chanber's Newsletter. All who returned the survey were eligible for the prizes which were chosen by lottery. Analysis: Returned surveys were tabulated by the staff of the Chamber and computer analyzed at California State University using the Super Calc 3 Speedsheet Program. Review Process: The results of this study have been reviewed and endorsed by the Economic Development Division and the Board of Directors of the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce. Use of Results: To provide input to transportation planning officials about the projects which are important to the business community. This list will also guide the work of the Chamber's Transportation Committee as we continue to review the high priority projects. c o o o San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce Transportation Survey Part I Survey Instrument I-A. TRANS 2 o o o o San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce Transportation Survey Part II Data Analysis II-A. Frequencies on Issues Columns A to E contains the number of respondents who rated that issue in each category of importance: A = critical, B = important C = desireable D = low priority E = no opinion The next two columns indicate the total number of respondents who answered for each issue (Sum A-E), and the total number who had any opinion (Sum A-D). The next four columns give the percent in each response category. The column labelled WTD AV gives the relative rank for each issue. This is calculated by weighing each response. Thus, a response of "A"(most important) has a value of four, a response "B" has a value of three and so on. Then the weighted average is calculated by using the formula: WTD AV = (4xA + 3xB + 2xC + 1xD)/SUM A-D This weighting technique means that the issues with the higher weighted averages are the most important. II-B. Bar chart of the weighted averages for each transportation issue. II-C. Frequencies on issues - sorted on weighted average. Issues are listed in order from the highest weighted average (most important) to the lowest weighted average (least important). II-D. Bar chart of the weighted averages in descending order. II-E. Bar chart as in item E above but indicating the percent of respondents who thought the issue was "critical". ~" 11!" ;,'U4~pr. ; 'j , 1 ':l;.. ,;;".'~ ~..i#:"'''-' Ch..be> Transportation Survey QllLe<<:IES III ISSUES - , WID IW = 14.A . 3.8 . 2.e .hDll SUI!
