From Chief of PoliceJ ~{\ \ Date August 13, 1986 Approved Date . I believe you recently received a letter from the towing agencies that serve the City of San Bernardino. That letter reveals that they will no longer tow abandoned, stripped or inoperative vehicles. Their reasons are stated in the letter which is attached. Their position is understandable, however, their refusal to store these vehicles places the City of San Bernardino in a very difficult position. We cannot remove vehicles from the roadway under these conditions and the Fire Department who removes these kinds of vehicles from private property are in the same predicament. - A meeting is set for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 1986 to discuss solutions to this major problem. Until a stop gap solution followed by a permanent solution is developed, the Police Department will not be removing abandoned and stripped vehicles from the roadway. 1 anticipate calls from your constituents as these vehicles appear and pro) iterate throughout the cOl1111unity. Please understand there is nothing we can do at this moment, and as soon as a viable alternative is found, we will move quickly to resume removing these vehicles from the roadway. hank you for your understanding and patience.
