Synopsis of Previous Council action:

Recommended motion:
1) Adopt Resolution authorizing the establishment of a "No Parking Any
Time" Zone for 160 feet on both side of Sierra Way, for both North
and South intersection aproaches, at 3rd and 5th Streets.
2) Adopt Resolution authorizing the installation of exclusive left-turn
lanes on Sierra Way at 3rd and 5th Streets.

STAFF REPORT
The Engineering Division has reviewed the adequacy of existing lane
striping of all City streets which were recently resurfaced by the
Public Services Department.
Our review indicates that there is a need to establish left-turn pockets
on Sierra Way. at 3rd and 5th Streets, to facilitate left-turn movements
and to reduce increasing "rear-end" type traffic accidents. This
arrangement would require on-street parking to be restricted on both
sides of Sierra Way for 160 feet. for both North and South intersection
approaches, at 3rd and 5th Streets.
This proposal was presented to the Mayor's Traffic Safety Advisory
Committee on July 23, 1986, for their evaluation. and they sUbsequently
recomended approval by the MaYOr and Common Council.
City Attorney:
1) Please amend Resolution 3985, Section One, Subsection (273) to
include:
on both sides of the street, between the South curb of 3rd
Street to 160 feet to the South; on both sides of the street,
between the North curb of 3rd Street to 160 feet to the North;
on both sides of the street, between the South curb of 5th
Street to 160 feet to the South, on both sides of the street,
between the North curb of 5th Street to 160 feet to the North.
2) Please amend Resolution No. 5997, Section One to include:
2.91 Sierra Way: For the purpose of left-turning traffic at
its intersection with the following streets:
3rd Street and 5th Street

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 5997 ENTITLED IN PART "A RESOLUTION . . . DESIGNATING CERTAIN
STREET INTERSECTIONS AND LOCATIONS WHEREIN TRAFFIC LEFT LANES
MUST TURN LEFT" AND AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF A LEFT-TURN
LANE ON SIERRA WAY AT THIRD STREET AND FIFTH STREET.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS
SECTION 1. Resolution No. 5997, which designates certain

street intersections and locations whereiin traffic in left lanes
must turn left, Section One Subsection (2.25) SIERRA WAY is
amended to read as follows:
"(2.25) SIERRA WAY
For the purpose of left turning traffic at its
intersection with the following streets:
Third Street Northbound on Sierra Way
Southbound on Sierra Way
Fifth Street Northbound on Sierra Way
Southbound on Sierra Way
Fortieth Street Northbound on Sierra Way
Southbound on Sierra Way
Forty-fifth Street Southbound on Sierra Way.
Forty-sixth Street Northbound on Sierra Way
Southbound on Sierra Way.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San
Bernardino at a
