Box 30305 San Bernardino, CA 92413 August 5, 1986 The Honorable Mayor Evlyn Wilcox and Members of the Common Council City of San Bernardino 300 North D Street San Bernardino, CA 92418 c:: .:::--, .:) ,'-1 I -=- Dear Mayor Wilcox and Members of the Common Council: :-~ lJi The San Bernardino pioneers are requesting financial assistance from the City of San Bernardino to help with financing their entry in the United States Open Baseball tourney at Rainbow Stadium, University of Hawaii in Honolulu as representatives of the City of San Bernardino. The costs for participating in this tournament, including airfare and hotel are $11,300. ' We had planned a major fund raiser to help defray these expenses by scheduling the Mexican National team for a game at perris Hill Park. However this event was cancelled when the lights went out at Fiscalini Field. The pioneers consist of local and nationally known college players who are interested in pursuing baseball careers. Citizens in the San Bernardino area house our players during the Summer months. We have been instrumental in obtaining numerous college grants and professional contracts for our team members. The pioneers have represented San Bernardino worldwide over the past several years. They were hosts at Fiscalini Field to the Olympic Baseball teams. Last year they brought the Cuban World Champions in for the first time in 25 years. The Cubans because of their reception last year have entered into a yearly agreement to play in the U. S., possibly a major breakthrough in international relations. The Pioneers have been on television in Japan and Taiwan. This Summer the pioneers sponsored a drug program with the Mayor's committee on drug abuse bringing in major league stars and members of the pioneers to speak and work with hundreds of youth in San Bernardino. The pioneers have asked for assistance only once, in bringing in the Olympic teams, however because of problems at the field they now see~ help. .~ o o o We respectfully request the City's assistance in the amount of $4,000 to assist with the costs of entering the U.S. open Baseball tournament in Hawaii. The balance has been taken care of with private loans and donations. ~~ o Jl . ~NEERS o Play to Win ~ - o o RF; -nr ,~'rr' _,') ~~n :~~5 C.d BASEBALL CLINICS Co-eel ages 8 to 15 Monday - Thursday Cajon High School Hitting Fielding Pitching Base Running Friday Norman F.
