low bid price of $42,581.00.

for construction of Daley Canyon Road, east of Chiquita Lane,
in accordanCe with Plan No. 6824, be approved; to authorize
the Contractor to raise subgrade in area of 1806 Daley Canyon
Road to conform with Revision No. 1 to the plans, on a time
and materials basis, not to exceed $1,400.0D, and remove west
transition for driveway approach on Daley Canyon Road for
1805, and reconstruct, on a time and materials basis, not to
exceed $300.00.

STAFF REPORT
A driveway was installed by Dr. John Hendy to serve his house under con-
struction at 1806 Daley Canyon Road. This driveway was installed too high to
match the curb and gutter to be installed by this contract. In order to avoid
having to remove this driveway, Dr. Hendy requested that the grade for the curb
and .gutter be raised. Upon reviewing the plans, we found that the grade could
be raised about 7 inches, without creating any problems. A slight change was
made in the alignment of the curb and gutter to assist in matching the driveway.
Dr. Hendy submitted a letter requesting this change and agreeing to be
assessed for the actual additional cost, not to exceed $1,400.00. The actual
costs will be determined by time and material reports submitted by the Contractor
and verified by our inspector.
The owner of 1805 Daley Canyon Road, Mr. Alan Smith, advised that he was
unable to traverse the driveway approach on Daley Canyon Road in his crew cab
pick-up and horse trailer. A field review revealed that the driveway approach
was adequate for automobiles and regular pick-ups, but not for Mr. Smith's special
vehicles.
The Contractor was directed to remove and reconstruct the west transition,
in order to increase the width of the driveway approach by 3 feet. Since Mr.
Smith was not responsible for this situation, and has not agreed to be assessed,
the cost for this item will apparently have to be charged to incidentals.
We recommend that Change Order No. One be approved.

Gentlemen:
You are hereby authorized and directed to perform work as follows:
1. Raise subgrade in area of 1806 Daley Canyon Road, on the north side, in
accordance with Revision No.1, dated 7-29-86, to Drawing 6824, on a time and
materials basis (Section 3.3 of the Standard Specifications), at a cost not
to exceed $1,400.00.
2. Remove west transition for driveway approach on Daley Canyon Road for 1805 and
reconstruct 3 feet westerly, on a time and material basis, in accordance with
Section 3.3 of the Standard Specifications, at a cost not to exceed $300.00.
Total extra work cost added to contract .............................$ 1,700.00
