CI~ OF SAN BERNAR~O - REQU~T FOR COUNCIL A~ION
STAFF REPORT
The city staff is in the final process of establishing our own in-
house computerized parking citation program. Over 18,117 unpaid
park, ing citations have been input and forwarded to the Department of
'Motor Vehicles (DMV) for the registered owners name and address of
these vehicles, in order for final notices to be mailed out.
Five hundred and eighty-five (585) of these unpaid parking citations
($14,682) have been issued to out of state registered vehicles since
September 1974 to July 3, 1986. We are unable to obtain the name
and address of the owners of these vehicles.
Also, there are fifty-six (56) parking citations that have been
issued to undercover vehicles utilized by law enforcement agencies,
that we are unable to obtain information on, and we do not believe
that it would be in our~est interest to pursue.
There are another 974 parking citations, ($28,031) that were issued
to vehicles that have since been sold to junk dealers and been
written off by the Department of Motor Vehicles as being disassemble
vehicles names and addresses are no longer available.
It is requested that we be authorized to purge files of all delin-
quent parking citations against vehicles that are:
1. Out of state vehicles, (585) (Backup available in the
Public Buildings Division)
2. Undercover vehicles utilized by law enforcement agencies,
(56) (Backup available in the Public Buildings Division)
3. Disassembled junked vehicles written off by DMV, (974)
(Backup available in the Public Buildings Division)
Total number of parking citations 1,615 ($44,056)T
