An "All States picnic" is planned for the City Hall Plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 1988, which is the first week that the 51 contestants arrive in San Bernardino. A folding t_ble is to be set up for each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., at which each contestant will represent her jUrisdtotion. Residents and "transplants" will be invited to jo n each contestant from their state. . The Mayor and Common Council have previously expressed their support for the Miss Teen USA Pageant (Resolution No. 87- 395). The proposed "All States Picnic" will require the following activities of various City departments: Parks & Recreation Act~vitv Place folding tables and chairs Deoartment/Division Public Services Trash Removal Public Buildings Place Banner Pedel!trian Clean-Up on "E" Street Bridge and Police security Additionally, fees would otherwise apply to the "All States picnic" by the City of San Bernardino to include a banner permit, liability insurance and special event charges. This activity is sponsored by Main Street, Incorporated and the City of San Bernardino is proposed to be a cosponsor of the event. The planning committee for this event has included a cross section of representatives of the public and private sectors. A food handlers permit has been obtained from County Environmental Health Services for the serving of hot dogs, beans and soft drinks. While the Miss Teen USA pageant will draw national and international attention, the "All States picnic" will provide a local opportunity to meet and greet our visiting tourists in a festive setting. A $5.00 donation (charge> for the picnic is planned with one half of any profits going to the Miss Teen USA Pageant and the other half going to Main street, Incorporated. The "All States picnic" should be a positive and exciting event promoting a sense of community pride.
