Synopsis of Previous Council action:
12-15-80 Resolution No. 80-510 adopted authorizing execution of
an Agreement with Santa Fe.
06-09-86 Authorization granted to advise Caltrans that the City
will finance the local agency share.
08-18-86 City Administrator authorized and directed to provide
$31,000 to finance the City's share of improving Grade
Crossing No. 2-83.9 on Pepper Avenue.
08-19-86 Resolution No. 86-342 adopted authorizing execution of
Program Supplement No. 41.
08-19-86 Resolution No. 86-353 adopted authorizing execution of
a Supplemental Agreement with Santa Fe.
Recommended motion:
That a finding be made that the improvement of
Grade Crossing No. 2-83.9 on Pepper Avenue is
needed for health and safety reasons.

STAFF REPORT
The crossing on Pepper Avenue with the Santa Fe Railway,
south of Rialto Avenue, will be improved by installation of
flashing lights and automatic gates. These protection devices
will be installed at the planned ultimate width of Pepper Avenue.
Widening of the approach roadways to the ultimate width
will be required. This widening will be done under a contract
awarded by the City.
Installation of additional protection devices and
widening the apprach roadways will enhance the safety of motorists
using this section of Pepper Avenue.
We recommend that a finding be made the improvement of
this grade crossing is needed for health and safety reasons.
