Subject
A resolution authorizing the execution of a purchase order to Crest Chevrolet. for
one (1) 2002 4-Wheel Drive Tahoe Utility Vehicle to be utilized by the Fire Department.
BACKGROUND
This utility vehicle is for the replacement of vehicle #SS-9, a 1984 Chevrolet Caprice
with 114,000 miles that has surpassed its economic life. Vehicle #SS-9 has been
placed in surplus for auction. The new utility vehicle will be assigned to a Battalion
Chief and utilized for training and hauling heavy equipment. This vehicle was originally
scheduled for replacement in FYOO-01.
A notice of Request For Quotes, F-02-16 was issued on September 6,2001 to six (6)
vendors, the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce, and advertised in the San
Bernardino Sun and on the City web site. The City received two no bids and one quote
was received from Crest Chevrolet as listed below:

The Fire Department required a specialized vehicle to meet the demands of emergency
service, Vendors, when responding to a City specification have the option of taking
exception to, or proposing alternatives, to the stated specification. These exceptions
are then reviewed by Fleet Division and the user department to determine if they meet
the needs of the City. The other two vendors may have felt that they did not have a
vehicle andlor features that were equal or greater than the set forth in the specification.
The technical specifications of the bid submitted by Crest Chevrolet were reviewed and
meet all items called for in the specification. This vehicle will be ordered upon award of
the purchase order.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for this purchase are available in the Public Services FY2001/2002, Motor
Vehicle Account No. 635-341-5701. The fund balance before this purchase is
$1,229,300.
