The County purchased the Property under the "Asset Control Areas" Cooperative Agreement between FHA and the County dated December 7, 1999. The County has previously donated three other residential properties (2 single family units and I multi family) to the Agency. In turn, two (2) properties were donated to Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) who will rehabilitate through their Y outhBuild Program and sell to first time homebuyers and the third property is being proposed to be donated to NHS in conjunction with other multi-family opportunities. CURRENT ISSUE Over the course of two years, staff has had a series of neighborhood and community meetings with the residents of the NIP # I and they have expressed a desire to have open green fields, community gardens or a small neighborhood park located within the NIP # I. Recently the Council approved a $100,000 budget to help fund the development of small pocket parks on underutilized vacant land throughout the City. Accordingly, in light of the desires of the community and the fact that the land is being made available to the Agency at not cost, Staff would like to work with Park & Recreation and Code Compliance Departments to explore the feasibility of developing a small community park on the Property. Should the park concept prove to be unfeasible, Agency Staff will then proceed to dispose of the land to an approved non-profit or ARR partner for development of an infill single-family home. ENVIRONMENTAL None. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to the Agency anticipated at this time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GVO:MP:lag:08-20-0 1 Donation NIP COMMISSION MEETING AGENDA Meeting Date: 08/20/2001 Agenda Item Number: J;.I.JI./ ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGENCY STAFF REPORT --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Request Approval To Accept Donated Propertv Located At 1650 North Sierra BACKGROUND On August 7, 2001 the County of San Bernardino Board of Supervisors donated the residential vacant property located in the Neighborhood Initiative Program (NIP) #1, Phase #1, at 1650 North Sierra Way (the "Property") to the Redevelopment Agency ("Agency") (see attached Map).
