Backl!round: The Traffic Engineering Section received requests from citizens, via the Council Office, to install a 2-way stop at the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Evans Street, and to evaluate the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Niles Street for visibility concerns, The requestors feel that these intersections are not currently functioning safely, Both intersections are currently uncontrolled, Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the intersections, Both have limited visibility created by heavy vegetation in the area. Visibility is further limited at the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Niles Street by the geometry of the intersection. Kenwood Avenue makes a horizontal curve at its intersection with Niles Street. Due to the limited visibility at both of these intersections staff recommends that they be controlled by stop signs, Kenwood Avenue at Niles Street is to be controlled by a I-way stop (stopping westbound traffic), And, Kenwood Avenue at Evans Street is to be controlled by a 2- way stop (stopping east and westbound traffic), The Traffic Safety Committee evaluated these requests on July 11, 2001. The Committee concurred with the findings of staff and therefore recommended that a I-way stop be installed at the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Niles Street and a 2-way stop be installed at the intersection of Ken wood Avenue and Evans Street. Financial Impact: The estimated cost of$ 700,00 for installing the new stop sign will come from Account No, 001- 187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials).
