Authorization to Install a I-Way Stop at the intersection of Pico Avenue and King Street.
Backl!round:
The Traffic Engineering Section received a request from a citizen, via the Council Office, to
install a I-way stop at the intersection of Pico Avenue and King Street. The requestor lives near
the intersection. The requestor is concerned over the fact that the intersection is uncontrolled.
She claims that traffic has increased in the last several months at the intersection, and feels that
installing a stop sign would resolve an unsafe situation.
Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. This is an uncontrolled "Tn intersection in a
residential area. The branches of mature trees on the southwest comer of the intersection create
a visibility restriction for eastbound motorists looking south.
Due to the limited visibility created by the tree branches on the southwest comer of the
intersection, staff recommends that the intersection be controlled by a I-way stop (eastbound
traffic would stop).
The Traffic Safety Committee evaluated this issue on June 13, 2001. The Committee concurred
with the findings of staff and therefore recommended that a I-way stop be installed at the
intersection of Pi co Avenue and King Street.
Financial ImDact:
The estimated cost of$ 200.00 for installing the new stop sign will come from Account No. 001-
187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 655 ENTITLED, IN PART, "A RESOLUTION... DESIGNATING CERTAIN
STREETS, OR PORTIONS THEREOF AS THROUGH HIGHWAYS..." AND
AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF A ONE-WAY STOP AT THE

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Resolution No. 655, which designates certain streets, or portions
thereof, as through highways, Section One is amended by adding Subsection (13.82) PICO
