Background: In an effort to reduce smog and congestion, and consequently improve air quality throughout the Inland Valley, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has generously agreed to fund, or partially fund, traffic signal coordination projects in a number of cities. In San Bernardino specifically, the Tribe has authorized $100,000 in funding to augment the City's ongoing Capital Improvement Program (CIP) efforts targeted at such projects. Although specific projects have not been detailed at this time, it is anticipated that traffic signal interconnection may be accomplished on portions of Highland Avenue and University Parkway, as well as an overall upgrade to the City's "Quicknet" traffic signal monitoring package. Financial Impact: It is anticipated that the Tribal funding will provide the budget necessary to accomplish the stated objectives for the referenced projects. The $100,000 Tribal funding has been included in the FY 2001/2002 capital project budget in account no. 246-366-5504 (project numbers have not yet be assigned).
