STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT
A resolution authorizing the execution of a purchase order to Direct Edge, Inc. for one (1) disk type
Brush Chipper to be utilized by the Public Services Street Tree Division.
BACKGROUND
The disk type Brush Chipper is for the replacement of the previous brush chipper, unit #533, a
Vermeer Brush Chipper that has surpassed its economic life. The new equipment will be used for
removal of debris after tree removal and trimming.
A notice of Request For Quotes, F-01-59 was issued on February 28, 2001 to eight (8) vendors, the
San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce, and advertised in the San Bernardino Sun and on the City
web site. The City received two no bids and a quote was received from one company as listed
below:

The vendor submitted an alternative bid for an automatic feeder with a cost of $33,745 plus tax and
freight for a total amount of $37,176. The technical specifications of the bid submitted by Direct
Edge, Inc. were reviewed and meet all items called for in the specification. Delivery of this
equipment shall be upon award of the purchase order.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for this purchase are available in the Public Services FY2000/2001, Motor Vehicle Account
No, 635-341-5701.

DISK TYPE BRUSH CHIPPER WITII AUTOMATIC FEEDER TO BE UTILIZED BY
TIlE PUBLIC SERVICES STREET TREE DIVISION
BE IT RESOLVED BY TIlE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF TIlE
CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Direct Edge, Inc. was the only bidder for the furnishing and delivery
of one (1) disk type Brush Chipper with automatic feeder in accordance with Bid Specification
F-01-59 for the total amount of $37,176; pursuant to this determination, the Purchasing Manager
is hereby authorized and directed to issue a purchase order to Direct Edge, Inc" for said Brush
Chipper; such award shall only be effective upon issuance of a Purchase Order by the Purchasing
Manager.
SECTION 2. The authorization to execute the above referenced Purchase Order
is rescinded if it is not issued within sixty (60) days of the passage of this resolution.
