CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT SUBJECT A resolution ratifying the Mayor's action authorizing the City to donate three (3) Heil/Peterbilt side loading refuse trucks from the surplus vehicle fleet to the City of Mexicali, Mexico BACKGROUND Recendy, the City r\,ceived a request from our sister City of Mexicali, Mexico regarding the possible donation of available surplus refuse trucks as they are replaced by the City of San Bernardino with new vehicles. The vehicles to be donated are Heil/Peterbilt side loading refuse trucks, vehicle #156 (1992 model), #159 (1992 model) and #152 (1990). Due to high mileage and increasing maintenance costs, it has been determined these vehicles have surpassed economical use for the City of San Bernardino. Generally, vehicles in this condition are auctioned and the proceeds placed into the City General Fund. The donation of these three refuse trucks would enable the City of Mexicali to increase the ability to service the refuse needs of their City residents. With the transfer of tides for these vehicles, the City of San Bernardino would remove themselves from liability. Insurance, registration and maintenance would be the responsibility of the City of Mexicali, Mexico. FINANCIAL IMPACT The possible revenue from auction of these refuse vehicles would be approximately $7,000 to $8,000 per vehicle for a total of $21,000-$24,000 for all three (3) vehicles. This revenue will be not be realized by the City upon donation of these vehicles to the City of Mexicali.
