At the meeting of 9-9-92, the Archi- tect passed out a schematic cost estimate. Five (51 alternates were presented in this schematic estimate, ranging from $2,106,104 to $6,586,171. The lowest priced alternate, designated A, includes the renovation of the office spaces and restrooms. No cost is included irr this alternate for structural upgrading to meet current earthquake criteria. Alternate B is in the amount of $3,629,309, and includes the renovation in the first alternate, plus $1,523,205 for structural upgrade. Addition of 3,748 square feet to the lobby and mezzanine floors in Building A, electrical and mechanical upgrades, addition of two elevators and site work is included in the estimate of $5,008,369 for Alternate C. Alternate D is the same as Alternate C, except that a 8,083 square foot addition is included to bring the total available space up to the programmed value. The estimated cost of this alternate is $5,816,669. The Architect reviewed the site to determine the potential for future expansion. A footprint for a 13,000 square foot addition to Building A was developed. This footprint would accommodate a 3 or 4 story building to be constructed, and fits in well with the site conditions and Building A. Due to the cost associated with renovating Building B, the Archi- tect developed Alternate E as a comparison of the cost of this renovation with construction of the new addition to Building A. The cost for Alternate E is $6,586,171, which is $1,577,802 higher than Alternate C, and $769,502 higher than Alternate D. Building B also presents some operational problems for the Police Department, due to it being separated from Building A. /I - - - ,- '- <: Page 2 of 2 The Structural Engineer for this project located a set of prints and soil tests for the original building in the files of the Structural Engineer for that project. Finding these prints and tests will eliminate the need for most, if not all, of the $28,000 in extra work discussed at the last meeting of your Committee. A bill in the approximate amount of $1,600 will be submitted for reproduction costs. An amount of $1,523,205 is included in these alternates (except for the first one) for structural upgrade, to meet current earth- quake requirements. This amount is very preliminary, and will probably change significantly. Any change in the cost for structural upgrading for Building B will affect the difference in cost, between renovation and construction .of an addition to Building A. The Structural Engineer indicated that more, precise estimates will be available for the next meeting with the Design Development Team on 9-30-92. It should be emphasized that the schematic cost estimates are a first draft, and are subject to extensive revision. ('" The Design Development Team would appreciate an affirmation to ,,, proceed with preparation of plans for renovation of Buildings A and B, or for renovation of Building A and construction of a new addition.
