STAFF REPORT
Engineering Division was requested to investigate the traffic
conditions at the intersection of Pacific and Orange Streets. The
area residents are primarily concerned about school-age pedestrians
crossing Pacific Street to and from the re-opened Highland/Pacific
Elementary School located at the Northwest corner of the
intersection.
The intersection is divided by the City limit line in the middle
with the Western half of the intersection in the City. Pacific
Street is an East/West collector street accommodating an average of
8.800 vehicular traffic a day. Orange Street is a heavily
utilized residential street carrying 4,300 vehicles a day. Five
traffic accidents have been reported in 1986. four of which can be
corrected by 4-way stops.
The request was approved by the Mayor's Traffic Safety Advisory
Committee and has been subsequently concurred with by the San
Bernardino County Traffic Safety Committee. It is recommended that
4-way stop signs be established at the subject intersection to
improve traffic safety.

RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 2482 ENTITLED IN PART "A RESOLUTION . . . DESIGNATING CERTAIN
STREET INTERSECTIONS WHERE A STOP IS REOUIRED . . .", AND
AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF A FOUR-WAY STOP SIGN AT THE
INTERSECTION OF PACIFIC AVENUE AND ORANGE STREET.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Resolution No. 2482, which designates certain
street intersections where a stop is required, section One
Subsection (35.17) is amended to read:
-(35.17) For the purpose of stopping traffic entering ORANGE
STREET at its intersection with ,the fOllowing streets:
Piedmont Drive
Pacific Avenue - traffic approaching from the west only
Clifton Avenue - traffic approaching from the east only
Fisher Street - traffic approaching from the west only"
SECTION 2. Resolution No. 2482, which designates certain
street intersections where a stop is required, Section One
subsection (35.18A) is amended to read:
"(35.18A) For the purpose of stopping traffic entering
PACIFIC AVENUE at its intersection with the following streets:
Guthrie Street - traffic approahcing from the north only
Olive Street
Colwyn Avenue
orange Street - traffic approaching from the north only
Buckeye Street
Seine Avenue - traffic approaching from the north only
Rhone Avenue - traffic approaching from the north only"
