Dear Council Members:
This letter ls to request your assIst:a.nce in our quest to receive .)Jst
compensation for carpet damage resulting from the City's sewer system
backing up and flooding the T. Hughes Office Building with sewage water.
Damage was confined to the plb1ic ballway. (Please refer 1n the attached
letter dated February 2, 1981).
Replacement cost for the damaged carpet wffi 1ntaJ. $2,000.00.
The Risk Management Divlsl.on rejected our claim based on unreasonable
allegations c:l.ted in the Sewage Damage Survey. The fact of the matter is,
the plb1ic ballway carpet was in excellent condition prior to the sewage
damage, and showed no signs of the allegations mentioned.

Dear Mr. Eyans,
This letter is to confirm our conversation of this
afternoon where you inquired as to the appeals process
regarding the rejection of your supplemental claim.
As I advised you, a written appeal to the Common
Council regarding this denial must be made within 15
days of the date of the denial. The proper party to
receive the appeal is the City qlerk.
In accordance with your request, I have enclosed a
copy of tile inspection report from Universal Carpet
Systems concerning the damage to the hallway carpeting
in your blilding.
