J, Perlick Date: February 17. 1987 Synopsis of Previous Council action: Via the 1986-87 Budget Process, requested that an allocated Personnel Clerk I position in the Personnel Department be left vacant until the need arose to fill same. At the mid-year Budget Review held 2/9/87, the matter of allocating an additional position of Personnel Clerk I was referred to the Council Personnel Committee. At the Personnel Committee meeting of 2/10/87, the request for an additional allocated position of Personnel Clerk I was approved. Recommended motion: Authorize filling of the budgeted position of Personnel Clerk I, Personnel Department. ~~ Contact person: M,J, Per1ick Phone: 5161 Supporting data attached: Yes Ward: n/a FUNDING REQUIREMENTS: Amount: ~/;,nnn (for remainder of FY 86-87) Source: e Acct. 001- Finance:salaries Council Notes: 7~.0262 Agenda Item No 7 I CiTCiOF SAN BI!RNARDlro - REQUI!~ FOR COUNCIL ACT~N 75-0264 STAFF REPORT The Council Personnel Committee, via its meeting and minutes of February 10, 1987 recommended that this position be filled at this time. staffing the position will enable the Personnel Department to implement the desired "open and continuous" Law Enforcement Trainee recruitment process, as requested/approved by Chief Burnett and Juanita scott. The new process permits "LET" applicants to have their applications accepted and screened on an immediate basis by a Personnel Clerk - who will then schedule the applicant for an "LET" written test. The successful applicant thus walks away from the Personnel Counter with a test reservation card in hand. Additionally, this position will enable us to implement the desired finger- printing program (printing between 30 and 90 employees per month) and the Immigration Reform Act (requiring copies and signed statement of documents verifying work status). These last two duties will be given to the Personnel Clerk II currently performing employee in-processing. Duties from that pcsition, among others, will be shifted to the PCI position we wish to fill. Money is available in this year's budget via the part-time salaries section.
