STAFF REPORT c o c Staff and Redevelopment Committee recommend that the City pursue an application for EDA grant funds for the Baseline and Medical Center Drive Project, either on behalf of the City itself or in coordination with San Bernardino Westside Community Development Corporation (WSCDC). BACKGROUND We were inforllled approximately a month ago that Mr. Doug Golding was working with WSCDC for the sublllittal to the EconOlllic Development Administration for an EDA grant for the Haagan Shopping Center. Several conversations have been held since that time with WSCDC, as well as EDA. These conversations initiated the updating of the Overall Econolllic Development Plan (OEDP) which the Council reviewed on 2/2/87. The OEDP was approved by the OEDP Committee on 2/3/87 and has been forwarded to EDA. I In a conversation with Marilyn WillialDS of EDA, the City was asked to consider applying for the grant itself rather than through a private non-profit corporation because of the complexities of the issue and the City's (Agency's) current involvement in the project. WSCDC will be pursuing their involvement with EDA. Staff and Redevelopment COlllllittee recommend that the Agency be authorized to prepare and submit an application to EDA for the grant if it is determined at a later date that the grant would be better received from a public agency, if not, we recommend full cooperation with WSCDC towards their endeavor. 2219G/kp February 16, 1987 ~ . . o o o __ LL . .,. . ----..--.. - 0- I (@ 'I .r."
