Recommended motion:
That the Real Property Section of the Public Works Department be authorized and
directed to proceed with changing the name of Columbia Street. between "G" Street and
Walkinshaw Street. to Valley Street.

STAFF REPORT
The change in the name of Columbia Street between "G" Street and Walkinshaw Street
was City initiated. The change is to help provide continuity in street names in the
area. The City is in the process of extending Valley Street to the West, through
trhe Central City South Assessment District, and when this is completed, the
extension will connect with Columbia Street.
There are no resi dences or busi nesses affected by thi s proposed street name change.
The property owners will all be notified of the proposed change of name as a matter
of course in these proceedi ngs, and they wi 11 have the opportunity to address the
Mayor and Council regarding same. However, the Water Department has a water tank
structure which faces Columbia Street. The South side of Columbia Street is vacant
property.
With your authorization, this office will make the necessary notifications to
adjoining property owners, City Departments and utility companies, conduct the
investigations and prepare the appropriate resolution. The Post Office will also be
advised of the street name change.
Staff hereby recommends that authorization to proceed with this street name change be
granted.
