STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT: To allow membership (fraternal) orqanizations in the IL,
Industrial Light and other appropriate land use
districts.
Hayor and Council Heeting of November 18, 1991
BACKGROUND
The Development Code permits churches and other membership
organizations in various locations throuqhout the City. However.
churches are permitted in some desiqnations, but membership
orqanizations are not. Since they are similar uses, there may be
other desiqnations where membership orqanizations can or should be
permitted.
For example. churches are conditionally permitted in the IL land
use district. It was determined at the time of Development Code
adoption. that since uses within the IL land use district must be
conducted within enclosed structures and churches are conducted
within enclosed structures, churches could be a compatible use in
IL. Since membersship orqanizations are similar to churches, they
may also be appropriate in the IL district.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the Hayor and Common Council direct Planninq staff
to amend the Development Code to permit membership orqanizations in
the IL and other appropriate land use districts.
