Synopsis of Previous Council ection:
On October 15, 1990, the Mayor and Council established
salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4 and
Fire Fighter Trainee, effective Auqust 1, 1990.
Recommended motion:
1. That the salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-1 (Fire
Fighter), P-2 (Fire Investigator), P-3 (Fire Engineer),
P-4 (Fire Captain) and Fire Fighter Trainee be estab-
lished, effective Auqust 1, 1991, as outlined in the
attached staff report.
2. That the Personnel Department prepare an amendment to
Resolution No. 6429 and Resolution 6413, Section 13.

STAFF REPORT
section 186 of the city Charter established a formula for
setting salaries for local safety members, effective each
August 1. city staff has reached agreement with representa-
tives of Fire Local 891 on the ten cities whose salaries will
be averaged to determine this year's P-l, P-2, P-3 and P-4
salaries for the Fire Department. The cities selected are:
Hayward
Rancho CUcamonga
Fullerton
Torrance
Orange
Oceanside
Irvine
Mission Viejo
Modesto
Berkeley
The new monthly salary ranges, effective AUgust 1, 1991, are:

The increase in step 5 for each range from 1990 is as follows:

Adding 42.21% to reflect variable fringe benefit costs which rise
with salary, the total added cost for salaries and fringe benefits
is S408.592.
The Fire Fighter Trainee salary will be increased to $2,154, which
is 80% of the Fire Fighter Step 1 salary. Resolutions 6429 and
6413, Section 13, will be updated to reflect the increased
salaries.
