Recommended motion:
That the expenditure of $94,000, from the amount allocated in
1991/92 from the Street Lighting and Street Sweeping District for
street lighting enhancement, be approved; to finance the
undergrounding of overhead utilities and installation of street
lights on 21st Street, from Crestview Avenue to San Gabriel
Street.

STAFF REPORT
Due to the widening of 21st Street, the existing Edison
pole, on the southwest corner of crestview Avenue, must be relo-
cated at their cost. Edison has proposed deducting this cost
from the total cost to underground the existing utility lines
from Crestview Avenue to San Gabriel Avenue, and install 6 street
light standards, since the existing lights will be removed with
the utility poles.
The estimated cost for undergrounding the existing Edison,
GTE and Comcast Cable lines is $94,000, as set forth below:

Edison estimates that this figure represents one-half of
the total cost.
Under Rule 20-B of the Public Utilities Commission, the
City pays the difference in cost between relocating the overhead
lines, and installing the lines underground. The undergrounding
of these lines will greatly enhance the visual effect along 21st
Street.
We recommend that $94,000 be allocated from the Street
Light Assessment District to finance the cost for undergrounding
utilities along 21st Street.
