DescriPtion) Finance: Councir Notes: ,45-/ o ~ CITY OF SAN BIIRNARDINO - o RIIQUIIST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT There has been some confusion between the City and the local ambulance company regarding the need to proceed to a call on an emergency basis (lights and siren). State law provides that lights and siren can only be used if the ambulance is responding to an emergency call (Vehicle Code S2l055 and S21056). AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO ADDING SUBSECTION D TO SECTION 5.76.510 OF THE SAN BERNARDINO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO DISPLAY OF EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND SIREN ON AMBULANCES. THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Subsection D. is hereby added to Section 5.76.510 of the San Bernardino Municipal Code to read as follows: "D. Except when contacted directly by an individual seeking emergency assistance it is unlawful for an ambulance to display emergency lights and siren unless directed or authorized to do so by the City when dispatched."
