HARDGRAVE, Director of Public Works/ City Engineer Installation of Sewer -- Pico Avenue and Alley, South of Second Street SUBJECT: DATE: April 23, 1991 File No. 7.37-50; Reading File COPIES: --------------------------------------------------------------- o The easement for the alley is 10 feet in width. Attached is a copy of the letter just received from the Water Department, relative to their 2" water main on the centerline of the alley. It is obviously not possible to achieve a 10 foot horizontal separation within the alley. The Water Department recommends that a new 6" water main be installed in Second Street, to allow the existing 2" main to be retired from service. Installation of this new main, along with necessary services, is estimated to cost $17,799. It may be possible to secure approval from the Health Department by installing the proposed sewer main in a steel pipe. However, this would add between $12 - $15,000 to the cost of the project. There is also an existing gas line and utility pole line in the alley. Please advise if supplemental CDBG funds can be provided to finance the cost of installing a new water main and services. In the event that supplemental funds cannot be provided, it appears that we wi ave no choice but to abandon the project. ~ ROGER G.
