Most recently a discussion with the Redevelopment Committee members and the Mayor resulted in a desire to pursue membership. Mr. Michsel F. Klesh, Staff Vice President for the Greater Los Angeles World Trade Association, will be present at the Commission meeting to give you a brief overview of What the World Trade Association is and the benefits of membership. With the Norton Air Force Base reuse negotiations presently under way, it is appropriate that we begin now developing a marketing plan for the City of San Bernardino. The assistance provided by the World Trade Association is the most professional available in assisting us to be in a position to take advantage of this important opportunity. ~ UIlUIJUIl J. Temple, Acting Agency Admlnlstrato~ Economl c Deve lopment Agency " """'fi SUBJECT: WORLD TRADE CENTER ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP . Last February you and I'.and Thelma Press met with Michael Klesh, the vice president for The Greater Los Angeles World Trade Center Association. At that time we discussed the possibility of the City of San Bernardino becoming a corporate member. Due to other higher priorities, we did not follow up on membership at that time. I believe the time Is appropriate to become a corporate member for the following reasons: 1. The annual membership period Is November 1 through October 31. 2. With the Norton Air Force Base Reuse proposals being considered by the IVDA, consisting of the possibility of International Trade Centers, our membership g''les us a running start on preparing for an International Trade Center. 3., A corporate ,membership provides assistance In developing a marketing plan for our City for the future, as Indicated In 'the attached letter from Mr. Klesh. I recommend we pursue membership Immediately. The annual dues Is $5,000 and gives us the benefits as enclosed In the attached brochure. While the dollar amount of $5,000 In Itself does not require Commission approval, the membership Is. I believe, a polley consideration. If you concur with the membership, we could either proceed at 'your direction and provide Information to the Commission on November 19, or we could go' forward for formal approval. PI ease advise.
