Vernon Corridor PAC meeting was called to order at 6:15 P.M. at the Villasenor Library. 525 N. Mt. Vernon Avenue. San Bernardino. California. by Vice Chairman R. Wade Byars. Sr. ROLL CALL Roll call was taken with the following members being present: R. Wade Byars. Sr.. Richard Churchwell. Graciano Gomez. Jose Gomez. Esther Mata. Tod Me Donald. Kevin Mitchell. Manuel Morales. Trinidad Padilla and Randy Wyatt. . Absent: Melvin Elliott. Alfredo Enciso. Teresa Enciso. Maureen Giovanni and Ernest Vasquez. . Staff: Susan Morales. Redevelopment Agency. San Bernardino. 1. Minutes - August 15. 1990: Committee Member Graciano Gomez made a motion. seconded by Committee Member Randy Wyatt and unanimously carried to approve the minutes of AUgust 15. 1990. as submitted in typewritten form. 2. Public Comments: Committee Member Trinidad Padilla inquired about the status of the Northwest.Shopping Center. Committee Member Wade Byars explained that the Mayor held a meeting with the developer and community leaders to explain the project. He indicated that VIVA has signed a lease as the anchor tenant in the center. Discussion ensued as to the relationship this center would have to the Mt. Vernon Corridor. Mr. Wyatt explained the La Gloria center proposed for south Mt. Vernon. in Colton. Committee Member Graciano GOmez made a motion. seconded by Committee Member Esther Mata. and unanimously carried to draft a letter to the Mayor and the Common Council. expressing concerns about the supermarket at Baseline and Medical Center Drive and to emphasize the goals of the · Theme Area". 1 'Ia . <:MM.Ir.Ir'':l?7IUI '. o o o o o o o 3. Mt. Vernon Corridor Conceptual Theme: Ms. Morales reported that the Agency received fourteen (14) responses to the RFQ for redevelopment Consultant Services for the Mt. Vernon Theme Area. She stated they anticipated reporting the results to the Redevelopment Committee on October 4th. The Committee requested Chairman Jose Gomez and Vice Chairman R. Wade Byars, Sr., to attend the RDA Committee meeting and express support for the development of the "Theme Area". Adjournment Committee Member Esther Mata made a motion, seconded by Committee Member Graciano Gomez to adjourn to Thursday, September 27, 1990 at 7:00 a.m. at La Casita Restaurant, 385 N. "E" Street, San Bernardino, California. Vernon Corridor PAC meeting was called to order at 7:10 a.m. at La Casita Cafe, 385 North "En Street, San Bernardino, California, by Chairman Jose Gomez. ROLL CALL Roll call was taken with the following members being present: R. Wade Byars, Sr., Richard Churchwell, Graciano Gomez, Jose Gomez, Esther Mata, Manuel Morales, and Randy Wyatt. Absent: Melvin Elliott, Alfredo Enciso, Teresa Enciso, Tod Me Donald, Kevin Mitchell, Trididad Padilla, Maureen Giovanni and Ernest Vasquez. Staff: Robert J. Temple, John Hoeger, Ezell James, and Susan Morales, Redevelopment Agency, San Bernardino. NORTHWEST SHOPPING CENTER Mr. Temple informed the Committee that staff was present to address their concerns about the Northwest Shopping Center project. He explained that VIVA was a chain of markets owned by Quality Food, International. Quality Foods conducted two major analysis on the demographics of the area and determined that a VIVA Market would be very successful at that location. The Committee discussed their concerns about past business ventures on the west side of San Bernardino. They inquired about the effect this center would have on their project. Chairman Jose Gomez stated it was their goal to see both projects succeed. Mr. Temple responded that this project would not interfere with the Mt. Vernon Corridor's goals. In fact, he stated, they should compliment each ot~er. Committee Member Byars stated the importance of both projects attracting people from all over the City. Mr. Temple informed them that this market anticipates drawing customers from a 1-2 mile radius. The Committee expressed their appreciation for staff's attendance. 1 SMM:kak: 3293H o 4b o o o o o Committee Member Esther Mata made a motion. seconded by Committee Member Graciano Gomez. and unanimously carried to withdraw the letter addressed to the Mayor and Common Council. ADJOURNMENT At approximately 8:10 a.m.. a motion was made by Committee Member Randy Wyatt. seconded by Committee Member R. Wade Byars. and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting to 6:00 p.m..
