easterly to Arden Avenue.

completion of the freeway
Plans are now being prepared to extend the freeway from
Arden Avenue easterly to Fifth Street. Upon completion of this
section of freeway, Highland Avenue, easterly of Arden Avenue,
will be relinquished to the local agencies. This relinquishment
will involve both the City of San Bernardino and City of
Highland.
Caltrans has advised us, by letter dated 5-26-89 that it
will be necessary for both cities to request that the State
approve the extension of the Business Route 30 designation, from
Arden Avenue to the Route 330 Interchange. A copy of this letter
is attached for reference.
Approval of the business route designation, prior to the
relinquishment, will result in the State installing "Business
Route" signs on the Route 30 Freeway and Highland Avenue.
We recommend that the State be requested to approve the
extension of Business Route 30.

Dear Mr. Hardgrave:
Highland Avenue in the City of San Bernardino from State
Route 259 to Arden Avenue was approved by the State as Business
Route 30 on December 31, 1970. A copy of the resolution passed
by the City of San Bernardino requesting the Business Route
designation is attached.
The State is now completing plans to construct Route 30 freeway
from Arden Avenue to Fifth Street with a new connection to Route
330.
Upon completion of the freeway, the State will relinquish
Highland Avenue from Arden Avenue to the new interchange with
Route 330. (See attached map.) The relinquishment will involve
both the City of San Bernardino and the City of Highland.
We assume that both cities will be in agreement to extend
Business Route 30 easterly along Highland Avenue from Arden
Avenue to the Route 330 Interchange. If so, it is requested that
both the City of San Bernardino and the City of Highland provide
City Council resolutions requesting the State to approve the
extension.
If a business route is approved by the State prior to relinquish-
ment, the State will install "BUSINESS ROUTE" plate's on the
freeway and on Highland Avenue. After installation, the Business
Route plates on Highland Avenue must be maintained by the local
agencies involved.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN BERNARDINO REQUESTING THE EXTENSION OF BUSINESS ROUTE 30
3 ALONG HIGHLAND AVENUE, FROM ARDEN AVENUE TO ROUTE 330
INTERCHANGE.
WITNESSETH
WHEREAS, Highland Avenue, from Arden Avenue easterly to
Boulder Avenue, is presently designated as State Route 30; and
WHEREAS, plans for the construction of the Route 30
Freeway, from Arden Avenue to Fifth Street, are being prepared;
and
WHEREAS, Highland Avenue, from Arden Avenue to Boulder
Avenue, will be relinquished to the local agencies upon
completion of this. section of freeway; and
WHEREAS,
extensive development of traffic oriented
commercial establishments has occurred along Highland Avenue to
rovide necessary services to the motoring public; and
WHEREAS, the extension of Business Route 30 on Highland
venue, easterly of Arden Avenue, is needed to provide adequate
igning to these needed services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON
OUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE:
It is hereby requested that the State of
alifornia, acting by and through the Department of Transporta-
ion, approve the extension of Business Route 30 easterly along
ighland Avenue, from Arden Avenue to the State Route 330 Inter-
hange.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San
Bernardino at a
