Recommended Motion: 1. That the Mayor and Common Council approve the police department's request for a budget transfer/ amendment in the amount of $20,900.00 from account #001-224-5505 to account #001-224-5111. 2. CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Staff Report Subiect: Resolution of the City of San Bernardino approving a budget amendment to transfer funds from the Police Department's Background Investigations Account to increase the purchase order for ballistic vests in the Materials and Supplies Account. Backl!:round: A purchase order in the amount of $20,000.00 was issued to Adamson Industries to purchase ballistic vests. Due to the number of police officers with expired ballistic vests and expired detective's raid vests, it is necessary to increase the current budgeted amount by $20,900.00. When a ballistic vest expires, the manufacturer no longer warranties that item. Ballistic vests are worn by all sworn and non-sworn personnel. The expiration date is five years from the manufactured date of the vest. Also, due to the extreme heat in which officers wear these vests, the materials break down over the years making them less effective. The ballistic vests are a safety issue; therefore, it is imperative that this purchase order be increased to accommodate the replacement of these expired vests. Financial Impact: Funding source for $20,900 increase in purchase order is Account No. 001- 224-5505. Part of the monies in this account was budgeted for background investigations. The amount remaining in this account after the transfer will be sufficient to cover the backgrounds needed for the remainder of the fiscal year. Recommendation: 1. That the Mayor and Common Council approve the Police Department's request for a budget transfer/amendment in the amount of $20,900.00 from Account No. 001-224-5505 to Account No. 001-224-5111. 2. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MA YORAND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1.
