March 1, 1999 -Mayor and Common Council approve resolution authorizing the City Administrator to submit grant application for the 1999 TCSP Pilot Program for the purpose of developing a Santa Fe Depot Area Plan. CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Subiect: Resolution authorizing submittal of a grant application for financial assistance from the great American Station Foundation for the purpose of Santa Fe Depot Restoration. Back!!:round: The City of San Bernardino has committed to restoring its historic Santa Fe Depot. Staff has been researching funding sources to assist with the costs associated with the restoration project. As a member of the Great American Station Foundation, staff learned of the Foundation's financial support grant while attending a conference last year. The Great American Station Foundation is designed to serve as a catalyst for community-based station development initiatives. The grant award maximum is $25,000. The cost of the project is estimated to be $9-$10 million. Although this particular grant award is minor in comparison to the overall construction costs, support from the Foundation may encourage assistance from other funding sources. The grant application is due June I, 1999. Financial Imnact: If awarded, the 1999 Application for Financial Support from the Great American Station Foundation will provide $25,000 to assist in the City's efforts to renovate the Santa Fe Depot. No matching funds are required. Recommendation: It is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council adopt the resolution. c c c ((;(Q)[F)\f 1 2 3 4 5 RESOLUTION NO. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE GREAT AMERICAN STATION FOUNDATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SANTA FE DEPOT RESTORATION. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 6 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council have entered into an agreement with the San Bernardino Associated Governments to begin restoration of the historic Santa Fe Depot; and 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 WHEREAS, the potential benefits of the restoration include the economic revitalization of the area immediately surrounding the Depot and the improvement of transportation efficiency; and WHEREAS, The Great American Station Foundation is designed to serve as a catalyst for community-based station development initiatives; and WHEREAS, The Great American Station Foundation is accepting applications for financial support to provide assistance to enhance railroad stations NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 15 Section 1.
