Staff Report SUBJECT Set dinner workshop-October 7, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. in the EDA Conference Room-presentation on Homeland Security. BACKGROUND At the direction of Council, requests to schedule dinner workshops during Council meetings shall be approved by Council prior to agendizing the workshop. San Bernardino City Fire Department and Police Department would like to conduct a joint presentation on the status of activities to improve the City's Homeland Security and disaster preparedness. The presentation will provide Council with an overview of ongoing efforts with other emergency response agencies, the private sector, and the community to mitigate the consequences of a terrorist incident involving weapons of mass destruction. General topics to be addressed at the workshop include: .:. New Partnership for Intelligence Gathering .:. Ongoing Citywide ThreatlVulnerability Assessments 0) Infrastructure Security Enhancements (i.e. Target Hardening) 0) Implementation of U.S. Department of Justice Domestic Preparedness Program .~ Implementation of U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Metropolitan Medical Response System .:. Citywide Disaster Preparedness Priorities 0) Training and Equipment .:. Private Sector and Community Participation .:. Future Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness Grant Funding Opportunities FINANCIAL IMPACT The dinner workshop presentation will be made at no cost to the City. RECOMMENDATION That a dinner workshop be set for Monday, October 7, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. in the Economic Development Agency Conference Room to hear a presentation on Homeland Security.
