Recommended Motion: Authorize the City Administrator to execute all necessary documents relative to the purchase of the property located on the N/E comer of Palm and Kendall (Parcel No. 0261-191-06) and authorize the Director of Finance to appropriate an additional $36,000 from the General Fund Budget Reserve to Account No. 001-092-5720 (Funds for Fire Stati urchase). Backeround: In May of2000, the Fire Department Emergency Service and Planning Standards were adopted by Council. The planning standards included a fire station siting plan. A segment of that siting plan was to open a fire station in the Verdemont area to provide adequate response service to this growing area of the city. Funding was approved in the FY 2001-02 budget for the architectural design services for this project. In January 2002, a contract was awarded to WLC Architects, Inc. for professional design services for the Verdemont Fire Station. As a result of the siting plan, it was determined that an optimum location for a Verdemont Fire Station would be in the Palm and Kendall area. A site was located on the N/E comer of Palm and Kendall. Funding in the amount of $200,000 was approved in the FY 2002-03 budget to purchase this property. In July 02, the Economic Development Agency, on the City's behalf, negotiated a purchase price of $230,000 to acquire this property. In order to complete the deal, it is recommended that the City Administrator be authorized to execute the necessary documents. Escrow has been opened with Old Republic Title Company. In addition to the escrow closing costs of approximately $2,600, there is a balance of $3,400 on this parcel for Assessment District No. 987, which will need to be paid off. The district was formed in 1991 to provide funding for infrastructure improvements in the Verdemont area. Provided in Attachment A is an estimated Verdemont Fire Station Schedule, which outlines the construction process and provides a timeline for completion. Financing options are currently being explored for funding construction of the station. Financial Imnact: Council approved $200,000 in funding in the FY 2002-03 Budget (# 001-092-5720) for the purpose of acquiring land to construct a Fire Station in the Verdemont area. Since the purchase price for the desired property is $230,000, coupled with estimated escrow costs of $2600 and $3400 to payoff Assessment District 987, the total cost is $236,000. An additional $36,000 is necessary to purchase the land. A budget amendment appropriating $36,000 from the General Fund Budget Reserve to account #001-092-5720 is recommended.
