STAFF REPORT
Subiect:
Authorization to install I-way stop signs at the following intersections: 17th Street at Olive
Street; 17th Street at Colwyn Avenue; Colwyn Avenue at Atlantic Avenue; and, Atlantic
Avenue at Bangor Avenue.
Backl!round:
The Traffic Engineering Section received a request from the 17th Street Neighborhood
Association, via the Police Department, to evaluate the referenced intersections for stop signs.
The association feels that traffic safety would be enhanced in their neighborhood if the stop
signs are installed.
Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. All of the intersections are "T" intersections
located in an entirely residential area. The intersections are currently uncontrolled. Although
traffic volumes are relatively low, staff feels that sufficient justification exists to install the stop
signs at these intersections.
All of the intersections have visibility obstructions caused by one or a combination of the
following: roadway geometry, block walls, trees and shrubs. To resolve this situation, staff
recommends that stop signs be installed.
Financial Imooct:
The estimated cost of $1,000.00 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No.
001-187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials)
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.
