STAFF REPORT
REQUEST FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF BANNER POLES
ON UNIVERSITY PARKWAY
The installation of banner poles on University Parkway would provide the
City with an ideal location from which to promote events from throughout
San Bernardino.
Traffic volume counts from 2004 indicate that 29,000 vehicles travel along
University Parkway on a daily basis. This number is expected to increase.
Presently, many of the people living and traveling through this part of the.
City have no knowledge of events occurring downtown or in other parts of
San Bernardino. A banner at this location would give the City a
promotional tool with which to inform the thousands of University
Parkway commuters about Arrowhead Credit Union Stadium events, the
California Theater, Market Nights, the Route 66 Rendezvous, and
community events. The banner would also serve to promote the
numerous events at Cal State University San Bernardino. Increasing
attendance at City and community events would generate increased
revenue and stimulate greater awareness of all of the wonderful events
that happen in San Bernardino.
The estimated cost for the purchase and installation of banner poles is
$ 76,000.00
Recommendation:
That the Community Development Commission authorize the request for
$ 76,000 from EDA for the installation of banner poles on University
Parkway

Thanks for your enthusiastic support for creating a banner on University Parkway that
would signal the presence of the University District, as well as identify other events in
San Bemardino, e.g., Little League Tournaments and Route 66.
CSUSB supports having such a banner and would be willing to provide the same
financial match for the banner provided individually by the Little League, Route 66, and
others contained on the banner.
Thanks again for your ongoing advocacy of the concept.

2 poles. I have also included 2 bids fur the funntlJltions needed fur these 2 poll:s. The prices for these
