Dept: HUMAN RESOURCES Date: SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 MICC Meeting Date: Oct 1, 2007 Synopsis of Previous Council Action: On September 18, 2006, the Mayor and Common Council approved the establishment of salaries for Police Department Ranges pol, P-2, P-3 and Law Enforcement Trainee, effective August I, 2006. Recommended Motion: e I. That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-I (Police Officer), P-2 (Detective/ Corporal), P-3 (Sergeant) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August I, 2007. 2. Authorize the Human Resources to amend Resolution No. 6429 to reflect the above action. 3. Backl!round: Section 186 of the City Charter established a formula for setting salaries for local safety members, effective August I of each year. An agreement was agreed upon with the Police Safety Unit on the ten cities to be used for this year's calculation. The salaries of those ten cities have been averaged to determine the salaries for this year for Police Safety classifications. By comparison, total Section 186 salary increase for this group in FY 06-07 was $2,192,300. The Law Enforcement Trainee salary will be changed to $3,908 per month ($22.5461 per hour), which is 80% of Step A for the Police Officer (P-I) salary. Resolution No. 6429 will be updated to reflect the revised salaries. FINANCIAL IMPACT The City's FY 2007-2008 approved budget included $2.8 million in General Government for all Charter 186 anticipated salary increases. The amount of Charter 186 salary increases outlined above for the Police Safety Unit is $923,700. This action will leave a balance of $1.876,300 for the remaining 186 salary increases. The anticipated 186 increase for employees hired into Measure Z positions was already incorporated into the FY 2007-08 budget. Recommendation: I. That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-I (Police Officer), P-2 (Detective/ Corporal), P-3 (Sergeant) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August 1,2007. 2.
