Notices inviting bids for Bid Specification F-Ol-56 Concrete Repair of Sidewalks, Various Locations, were sent to eighteen (18) contractors, the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce, the City's Web Site and advertised in the Sun Newspaper. Seven bids were received, two of them were no bid responses and four were from local San Bernardino contractors. The results are as follows: CONTRACTOR Avila Construction, Inc. Malton Construction International Pavement Solutions Superior Concrete Ace & Sons Quick Crete M-B Company LOCATION San Bernardino Riverside San Bernardino San Bernardino San Bernardino Norco Wisconsin BID $104,076.50 $120,863.00 $172,094.00 $176,202.00 $444,168.05 No Bid No Bid Avila Construction is the lowest qualified bidder and has satisfactorily completed several sidewalk repair projects for the City. The Public Services Department has reviewed the contractor's previous performance of sidewalk repairs and has determined that A vila Construction is qualified to perform this project. Therefore, it is requested the Purchasing Manager be authorized to issue a purchase order to Avila Construction, Inc. for sidewalk repairs at various locations in an amount not to exceed $104,076.50. Since many of the sidewalk repairs in this project are the result of tree roots uplifting the sidewalk, as a concurrent action, approval is requested to authorize and direct the Purchasing Manager to increase the existing contract between the City and West Coast Arborist, Inc. in the amount of $20,000 for tree removals and root trimming in conjunction with the sidewalk repairs. West Coast Arborists, Inc. has satisfactorily completed $297,987 in tree removal and tree trimming in FY2000/2001 which was adopted under Resolution 2000-240. Staff recommends this award to West Coast Arborists since they have done very good work for the City. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funding for these sidewalk repairs is included in the FY 2000/2001 Street Division Budget, Account No. 001-406-5505 Contractual Services in the amount of $175,000; and funding is also available in FY2000/ 2001 Street Division Budget Account No. 001-406-5502 Contractual Services, for West Coast Arborists, Inc. in the amount of $20,000 for tree removal and trimming.
