Synopsis of Previous Council action:
May 20, 1991 - Council adopted MC 785, amending Section 8.60.120.B relating to
fireworks in high fire areas.
Recommended motion:
That the request of the San Bernardino Spirit Baseball Club to allow fireworks shows
on July 3 and 4, 1992 be referred to the Council legislative Review Committee.

SPIRIT BASEBALL CLUB TO
ALLOW FIREWORKS SHOWS AT
FISCALINI FIELD ON JULY
3 AND 4.
The San Bernardino Spirit has requested that the Municipal
Code that prohibits fireworks shows at Fiscalini Field be
reconsidered. They are requesting to be allowed to have a
fireworks display during their home game dates of July 3 and
4, 1992. Spirit representatives have suggested mitigating
measures if they are allowed to have a display.
Approximately 10 months ago, Council adopted MC-785 which
amended section 8.60.120. B of the San Bernardino Municipal
Code. MC-785 allowed for fireworks display in 1991 for one
time only. The code previously prohibited fireworks at Perris
Hill Park, designating it as a high fire area.
It is recommended that this item be referred to the
Legislative Review Committee or an Ad Hoc Council Committee
for further review.

Dear Ms. Ramos:
The San Bernardino Spirit would like to provide a
Fireworks Show for the fans of the Spirit on July 3rd and 4th at
Fiscalini Field. I understand that this has been a sensitive issue in
the past. I have gathered information from Chief Burdick at the
Fire Marshal's office and would like to request permission on the
following baS1S:
First, the code cited was written for the area in 1985, prior to
the improvements at Fiscalinl. The show will be professionally
delivered
Second, the tickets for Fiscalini w1ll UQ.t be oversold.
Third, the Spirit will have some kind of major event to
celebrate our nation's independence. If you allow us to have
fireworks, the Spirit will donate $1,000 to the city to assist in the
cost of controlling the fans behind the right field fence.
Finally, with the cancellation of the Fireworks show sponsored
by the city this year, it is going to make it difficult for the citizens
of San Bernardino to celebrate Independence Day in the traditional
manner. The Spirit fireworks will allow your constituency to
celebrate close to home.
I hope this request can be approved quickly. Time is of the
essence to arrange a fireworks provider or other entertainment
venue. I remain
