Synopsis of Previous Council action:
May 5, 1986, the Mayor and Common Council directed the City Attorney
to prepare the appropriate resolutions and ordinances for the closure
of Piedmont Drive at the intersection of Victoria and Piedmont for the
meeting of May 19, 1986.
Recommended motion:

RESOLUTION NO.
2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO CLOSING PIEDMONT
DRIVE AT ITS EASTERLY TERMINUS, AT THE INTERSECTION OF VICTORIA
3 AVENUE, AND DIRECTING CONSTRUCTION OF A CUL DE SAC TO EFFECT SUCH
PURPOSE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
5 OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Findinas. The Mayor and Common Council of the

City of San Bernardino make the following findings:

A. That portion of Piedmont Drive shown on the attached
9
Exhibit A is not currently needed for public vehicular traffic.

B. Subsection (a) of the California Vehicle Code Section
21101 authorizes local authorities to adopt rules and regulations
by ordinance or resolution to close any highway to vehicular
13
traffic when the highway is no longer needed for vehicular
14
15

traffic.
C. The closing of said street has promoted and will
continue to promote public health, safety, welfare and morals.
SECTION 2. Closina. Pursuant to Subsection (a) of Section
18
21101 of the California Vehicle Code, the following street will

be closed to vehicular traffic:
That portion of Piedmont at its easterly terminus, at the
intersection of Victoria Avenue, as shown on Exhibit A attached.
SECTION 3. cuI de Sac. The closing will be effected by
construction of a cuI de sac.

accommodate access by emergency vehicles.

1 SECTION 5. Commencement of Desian and Construction. The
2 Director of Public Works/City Engineer and the Director of Public
3 Services shall commence forthwith the design and construction of
4 the cuI de sac provided for herein.
5 SECTION 6. Effective Date of Closina. The closing ordered
6 herein shall be effective at the time when barricades are erected
7 by the Director of Public Services.
