Project Home Run is designed to provide actual ownership of safe and decent houses for families who cannot qualify to purchase homes through conventional means and who are presently living in housing which makes healthy family life difficult. An essential element of the project is the collaboration of many participants in the broader community. This creative approach to homeless prevention is targeted to enable volunteers from the community to form working partnerships with the working poor and not to simply supply handouts. Our targeted area consists of the city of San Bernardino. The houses we acquire are to be located within the city limits. . The families we form partnerships with must meet the following qualifications: _ They must be low-income families who have a gross income equal to approximately three times the monthly house payments. This means the family needs to gross at least $1450/month and, in the case of some houses. $1500/month or so. Continued employment for the future must indicate that at least this amount of income will continue to be likely. _ The family must be unable to qualify to purchase a home without our help and this would continue to be the case for the foreseeable future. _ The family must be able to work with us for at least 100 hours while rehabilitating the house. No previous skills are necessary. _ The family must be able to produce good references from neighbors, employers. fellow workers, etc. _ Preference will be given to families living in buildings or in an immediate environment which make healthy family living more difficult than usual. t .
