Community Development Commission Workshop
BACKGROUND:
At their meeting of March 21, 2002 the Redevelopment Committee considered the request of
Councilperson Estrada that the Community Development Commission conduct a workshop on
the current status of all redevelopment project areas within the City. In consideration of several
factors, including the reinstatement of eminent domain in seven project areas, current bond
refinancing efforts, IVDA development activities at the base and the pending lakes (downtown
revitalization) project, the Committee agreed that a workshop on redevelopment is warranted. In
the opinion of the Committee, a refresher course in redevelopment law and finance is needed in
addition to presentations and discussions regarding the condition of each redevelopment project
area, current development opportunities, prospects for new tax increment creation and the status
of ongoing Agency activities.
In making its recommendation to the full Commission regarding the workshop, the Committee is
cognizant that an hour and one half may not be sufficient time in which to cover all proposed
topics and give each one justice and therefore realizes that more than the proposed lunchtime
session on May 20, 2002 may be required.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The proposed activity is exempt from CEQA.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact other than the cost of staff time and of audio visual materials.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the COlJ.llBllnity Development Commission adopt the Form Motion.
