Resolution #99-005, approved the purchase of 89 Motorola WS520 Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) for use in Police patrol vehicles and Fire apparatus. Resolution #99-309, approved the purchase of 52 Motorola WS520 Mobile Data Computer (MDCs) for use in Police patrol vehicles. Recommended Motion: c ~~ Adopt resolution. CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Staff Report Subject: Resolution of the City of San Bernardino authorizing the renewal of the existing maintenance contract for Police and Fire Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) with Motorola Corporation of Riverside, California. Background: The City of San Bernardino operates 141 Motorola WS520 Mobile Data Computers (MDCs). The Police Department uses 125 of these devices in black-and-white patrol vehicles. The Fire Department uses 16 of these devices in front-line suppression apparatus. Because of the complex nature of these mobile, specialized computers, only Motorola can maintain them, without voiding the factory warranties. Motorola has presented the City with an offer to extend warranty service on these devices for a fixed monthly price of $16.37 per month, per device. For this price, Motorola will cover all shipping costs to and from the repair depot and all repairs that are not the result of abuse or misuse. The County of San Bernardino's 800 MHz Group is unable to provide complete warranty service on these devices because of the complex computerization of these devices. As part of our regular contract with the County 800 MHz Group, they will continue to support minor repairs associated with these devices at a discounted rate. There was no price change from Fiscal 2000/2001 or Fiscal 2001/2002 on this item. This year, Motorola increased the monthly fee by 3 percent ($0.37 per month, per device). This contract will cover the entire fiscal year. Financial Impact: Police MDC Used in black-and- 125 @ $16.37 ea. per $ 24,555.00 Maintenance white patrol vehicles mo. Fire MDC Used in front-line 16 @ $16.37 ea. per $ 3,143.04 Maintenance suppression apparatus mo. TOTAL $ 27,698.04 The annual cost for MDC maintenance for fiscal year 2002/2003 is $27,698.04. These costs are included in I.S. chargebacks to Police and Fire, and will be budgeted in I.S. account #679-252- 5172. RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE RENEWAL OF THE EXISTING MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR POLICE AND FIRE MOBILE DATA COMPUTERS (MDCS) WITH MOTOROLA CORPORATION OF RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA. BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION 1. That Motorola Corporation is a sole source provider of maintenance services for the Mobile Data Computers (MDC's) used by the San Bernardino Police and Fire Departments. SECTION 2. That the Mayor and Common Council authorize the Purchasing Manager to issue a purchase order for $ 27,698.04 to Motorola, Corporation, of Riverside, California for maintenance services. SECTION 3. The authorization to execute the above referenced agreement is rescinded ifit is not executed within ninety (90) days of the passage of this resolution.
